About this deck
This deck has one card for each of the 193 member states of the United Nations, in alphabetical order. The country is on the front and its capital is on the back.
Some countries split capital functions between cities or have a recognized capital that differs from the seat of government, such as Bolivia, the Netherlands and South Africa. Those cards name each city and its role in a few words.
The deck suits geography bees, quiz practice, high school geography and anyone who wants to fill gaps in their world map. UN observer states (the Holy See and Palestine) and other territories are not included.
Study tips
- Study one continent at a time instead of the full A–Z list; you can filter the cards by searching.
- Look at a map while you study so each capital has a place, not just a name.
- Spend extra time on capitals that are not the largest city: Canberra, Ottawa, Brasília, Ankara, Abuja.
- Watch for capitals that share a name with their country: Djibouti, Kuwait City, Luxembourg, Monaco, Panama City, San Marino, Singapore.

All 193 UN member states. Observer states and territories such as Greenland or Puerto Rico are not included.
›Which countries have more than one capital?
Common examples are Bolivia (Sucre and La Paz), South Africa (Pretoria, Cape Town and Bloemfontein), Eswatini (Mbabane and Lobamba) and Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, with Putrajaya as administrative center).
›Do capitals change?
Occasionally. Recent examples include Kazakhstan (Astana) and Burundi, which moved its political capital to Gitega in 2019. Indonesia is building a new capital, Nusantara, but Jakarta remains the capital for now.
›Why does Israel's card have a note?
Israel designates Jerusalem as its capital, but this is not recognized by most countries, and most embassies are in Tel Aviv. The card states both facts.
