A Free Quizlet Alternative That Works Without an Account
If you want flashcards with study games, printing, and Anki export, all free and stored on your own device, this may suit you. Here's an honest comparison.
- 100% free
- No sign-up
- Nothing uploaded
What we do
- No account. Open the site and start making cards.
- Free. All features, no paid tier. See our free-forever promise.
- Study modes: Flashcards, Learn, Test, Match, Spell, and spaced repetition review using FSRS.
- Card types: basic, reverse, cloze, multiple choice, type-in, and image occlusion.
- Printing: double-sided PDFs with mirrored backs, index card sizes, 1โ16 cards per page.
- Import/export: Quizlet export text, CSV/Excel, Anki .apkg in and out, PDF and Word notes via Smart import.
- Offline: works as an installable web app once loaded.
What we don't do
It's worth being clear about the trade-offs before you move a semester's worth of cards:
- No cloud sync. Your decks live in your browser on one device. To move them, export a backup file and import it on the other device.
- No classes or collaboration. There are no teacher dashboards, shared folders, or live classroom games.
- No public search of other people's sets. We have a small curated library, not a large user-generated catalogue.
- No native mobile apps. The site works in mobile browsers and can be added to your home screen.
Quizlet has features we don't, especially around accounts, sync, a large shared catalogue, and classroom tools. Check Quizlet's current plans to see which of its features are free and which are paid; they change over time and we don't want to quote them wrongly.
Bring your Quizlet sets
On Quizlet, open a set, use the โฏ menu โ Export, and copy the text. Paste it into our editor and the cards appear with terms and definitions split correctly. The menu names may change; Quizlet's help pages describe the current export steps.
From there you can study the set here, print it, or convert it to Anki. We also export Quizlet-importable text, so you can move cards back.
Who this is a good fit for
- Students who want to study on one main computer without making another account.
- People who like paper flashcards and want them to print properly.
- Anki users who want a quicker way to write basic and cloze cards, then export an .apkg (image occlusion cards stay here; they aren't included in Anki files).
- Anyone who'd rather their notes not be uploaded to a server.
If you rely on syncing between phone and laptop throughout the day, or you teach a class that uses shared sets, a cloud service will likely suit you better.
Spaced repetition, briefly
Our review mode uses FSRS, a scheduling algorithm from the same family that modern versions of Anki use. It estimates when you're likely to forget each card and schedules it shortly before then. Learn mode is there for when you want a quick mixed session before a test. The spaced repetition guide explains the idea.
Privacy and how your data is stored
With most online flashcard services, your sets are stored on their servers under your account. Here they're stored in your browser on your device, and we never receive them. That has upsides โ no account, nothing to leak, works offline โ and the downside already mentioned: no automatic sync, and clearing your browser data deletes your decks unless you've exported a backup.
Shared links work without a server too. The deck is compressed into the part of the link after the #, which browsers don't send to the web server. Very large decks make very long links, so for those, share a backup file instead.
Frequently asked questions
โบCan I import my Quizlet sets?
Yes. Use Quizlet's export feature to copy a set as text and paste it here. Images aren't part of Quizlet's text export, so add those manually.
โบWill my decks sync between my phone and laptop?
No. Decks are stored locally. Use backup export and import to move them, or share a deck link to open it on another device.
โบIs it really free with no catch?
Yes. The site has no per-user server costs. Guide articles may show ads; this page, the editor, study modes, and print screens never do.
โบAre you affiliated with Quizlet?
No. We're an independent tool. Quizlet is a trademark of its owner.
โบWhat happens if I clear my browser data?
Your decks are deleted with it. Export a backup regularly if your cards matter to you.
