Privacy Policy

Summary

  • Your flashcards are stored in your browser on your device (IndexedDB). We don't receive them.
  • There are no accounts, so we don't collect names, emails, or passwords to use the tool.
  • Our host keeps standard server logs.
  • We use Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) to count page visits; it may set cookies. We don't send the content of your decks to it.
  • Content pages may show ads from Google AdSense, which may use cookies. Study, edit, and print screens don't show ads.

Your decks and notes

Everything you create — cards, images, study history, settings — is stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB. Files you import (PDF, Word, images, CSV, Excel, Anki packages) are read by code running in your browser and are not uploaded to us. Print PDFs and export files are generated on your device.

Because we don't hold a copy, we can't recover your decks if you clear your browser data or lose your device. Export a backup file now and then to keep a copy. You can delete your data at any time by deleting decks in the app or clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

Shared links

When you share a deck by link, the deck is compressed and placed in the fragment of the URL (the part after #). Browsers don't send the fragment to the web server, so the deck content doesn't reach us when someone opens the link. Anyone who has the link can see the deck, so only share links with people you intend to see it. Embedded decks and QR codes work the same way.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Like most hosts, Cloudflare processes standard request information — such as IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, and time — to deliver pages, protect against abuse, and keep the service running. This information is handled under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. We don't use it to identify individual users.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, to understand how many people visit and which pages they use (for example, how many people read a guide). Google Analytics may set cookies and collects standard information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type. It is not loaded inside embedded decks on other websites. Your decks and cards are stored in your browser; we don't send them to Google Analytics or to us. (A shared deck sits in the part of the link after #, which browsers don't send to servers and which our analytics setup doesn't record.) You can block analytics with your browser's privacy settings or an extension, or with Google's opt-out add-on; the tool keeps working.

Advertising and cookies

Content pages such as guides and informational pages may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. You can learn more and manage ad personalisation in Google's Ads Settings and at Google's page on how it uses information from sites that use its services.

In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ads are personalised only with consent collected through Google's consent message, where you can also change your choice later; without consent, Google serves limited, non-personalised ads. Ads are never shown in the editor, study modes, print screens, or shared deck views.

The app itself uses your browser's local storage to save your decks and settings. That storage is needed for the tool to work and isn't used for advertising.

Optional downloads from third parties

Some optional features use outside services. Except where noted below, these are downloads to your device and your content is not sent.

  • OCR languages: when you choose a non-English language for text recognition, its language data file is downloaded from a public CDN (jsDelivr).
  • On-device AI: the AI card writer uses the model built into your browser (currently desktop Chrome). The first time, the browser may download that model itself from its maker; we don't host or receive it, and your notes are processed on your device.
  • Read aloud: audio uses your device's speech voices. Some voices offered by the browser or operating system are online voices, in which case the text being read is sent to that voice provider (for example Google or Microsoft) under their policy.
  • Images and audio by link: if a card links to an image or audio file on another website, your browser loads it from that website when the card is shown.

Those services see a normal download request (including your IP address) and handle it under their own privacy policies.

Children

The tool can be used without providing any personal information. Content pages may show ads, as described above. Parents and teachers can use the study and print features, which never show ads.

Your rights

Because deck data stays on your device, you have direct control over it: view, export, or delete it at any time. For questions about server logs, analytics, or advertising, or to exercise any rights you have under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA, contact us at hello@onlineflashcardmaker.com.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes, such as a new type of data being collected, will be described here before they take effect.
