Subtraction Flashcards 0–10 (All 121 Facts)

About this deck
These 121 cards are the subtraction partners of the addition facts from 0 + 0 to 10 + 10. Every card subtracts a number from 0 to 10, and every answer is between 0 and 10, so the largest problem is 20 − 10.
This is the standard set of basic subtraction facts taught in first and second grade. Students who know their addition facts will find these much easier if they think "what plus this makes that?"
Study with spaced review here, or print the cards and keep the ones that still need counting in a separate pile.
Study tips
- Turn subtraction into missing addition: for 13 − 5, ask "5 plus what is 13?"
- Practice −0, −1 and "take away the whole thing" (7 − 7) first; they are quick wins.
- For problems like 14 − 9, count up from 9 to 14 instead of counting back.
- Review the matching addition deck alongside this one; the two reinforce each other.

Frequently asked questions
›Why does this deck go up to 20 − 10?
Basic subtraction facts are defined as the reverse of the addition facts to 10 + 10, so the starting number can be as high as 20.
›Are there any negative answers?
No. Every answer is a whole number from 0 to 10.
›My child knows addition but is slow at subtraction. Is that normal?
Very common. Practicing fact families (3 + 5, 5 + 3, 8 − 3, 8 − 5) together helps students see the link.
