About this deck
Twenty cards, one for each number from 1 to 20. The front shows the numeral and the back shows the number word, from "one" to "twenty".
Children usually learn to count out loud before they can read or spell number words. This deck links the two, and it is useful in kindergarten and first grade when number words start appearing in math worksheets.
Flip the deck to practice the other way: read the word, then say or write the numeral.
Study tips
- Practice 1–10 until it is easy before adding the teens.
- Point out the tricky spellings: four but forty, five but fifteen, eight with a silent gh.
- Teens 13–19 all end in -teen; have your child underline it.
- Pair each card with a counting task: show 7, then count out 7 buttons.

Frequently asked questions
›Why are eleven and twelve not "oneteen" and "twoteen"?
They come from older Germanic words meaning roughly "one left over" and "two left over" after counting ten. They are irregular, so they are worth extra practice.
›Should I include zero?
Zero is worth teaching, but it behaves differently from counting numbers, so it is left out of this 1–20 set. Add a card for it if you like.
›Can I use this deck for English learners?
Yes. Turn on audio so learners hear each word, and practice both directions.
